You do not have to be told that healthcare in this country has gone to Hell in a hand basket and our system is not even in the top 10 health systems in the world. We, as healthcare providers have a responsibility to take a more active approach to solving the multitude of problems that are in our facilities. The Joint Commission just released a study that showed 70% of hospital sentinel events involved poor communication. Also with all of the technological events of the past 2 decades, Pressure (Bed sores) are the second most common patient safety incident. Healthcare facilities must begin to take hospital acquired infections more serious (enforce hand washing) as a recent report by the Pennsylvania Department of Health says 1.7 million patients get infections a year while in the hospital and 99,000 die each year as a result. With all the problems facing healthcare, our tweets will be a little more informative than the typical "Our flowers in the courtyard look beautiful today" hospital tweet.
